The Carbon Footprinting team (formerly called the CA-CP team) within the Green Campus Enterprise has been calculating the annual carbon footprint of Michigan Tech since 2008. This data can be used to make large scale decisions about energy management, identify areas with strong emissions reduction potential, and to inform the campus community about emissions at Michigan Tech.
Market Based emission reporting includes Renewable Energy Credit (RECs) Offsets. Michigan Tech has purchased RECs in the form of wind energy since 2018. This offsets 50% of the electricity purchased locally by Michigan Tech using wind energy produced in the Lower Peninsula.
Location Based emission reporting does not include Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for the wind power purchased to offset 50% of Michigan Tech’s purchased electricity.
